Many restaurants in Porto are halal restaurants, meaning that they serve food without pork. However, be warned that Portuguese food can be heavy with pork, sausages etc. in general, so be sure to ask if they use the same knives and chopping boards for all their meat- especially if it's not a restaurant that does purely halal food.
In the past, most halal restaurants have been found in the eastern end of the city, but today many new halal restaurants have been opened in the center and west of the city. If you're looking for a halal restaurant in Porto, here is a list of some of the better ones.
Aywa French Tacos
After trying the French Tacos here, I can assure you that you won't be able to get out of your seat later. It is very filling so I recommend you empty your schedule before going. Although, I must say that it is very worth it as the dishes are reasonably priced yet the portions are big.
I ordered the tacos the last time I was here and they are full of dairy, they're so cheesy. So, I encourage you to avoid this meal if you are lactose intolerant and it is very savoury. Aywa French Tacos have very friendly staff and I hope you give this restaurant a visit if in Porto.
Sabores do Seboh
Overall, in Sabores do Seboh, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful in this cute restaurant. When tasting the dishes, you can tell they were made with love and it's homemade as it's a family ran restaurant. The meals taste delicious and like authentic Syrian food.
Here, there are moderately low prices for very simple, average portions of food. One meal I recommend is the falafel, one of the best in Porto I must say. They also have amazing vegetarian options.
Restaurante Essencia
Unfortunately, there aren't many halal restraunts in Porto but there are places such as Restraunte Essencia that offers a wide range of healthy vegetarian/vegan options. You'll be pleased to here that the service is excellent and fast thanks to the helpful staff.
The food, however, was on a whole other level. Everytime I ate there, I didn't wish to leave. The meals are just gorgeous. 10/10 to Restraunte Essencia for making me love vegetarian food.
Vegana by Tentúgal
Vegana by Tentúgal is an adorable, clean restaurant with a welcoming aroma that also comes with super friendly customer service. I must say though that the service was slightly slow as I'm certain the cooks were a cute mother/daughter duo.
This restaurant serves a range of healthy vegan foods that will leave you satisfied. The vegan Francesinha is very popular demand here and as it should be! The dish tasted out of this world. I one hundred percent recommend visiting this small business.
DaTerra Foz do Douro
The food here is very high quality and made completely fresh. It was super delicious with mixtures of different flavours within each bite. It was an amazing experience.
If you're a picky eater like me, you'll be grateful to here that there are a lot of vegetarian options here. The restaurant is small with a lovely, welcoming ambience and super friendly customer service. They have great people who are always up for a chat. I thoroughly encourage people who wish to try different, Muslims and vegatarians to visit here.
